Approaching Typhoon Dujuan disrupts flights for Hawaii travelers in Japan

TOKYO, Japan (HawaiiNewsNow) – If you plan on flying to Japan in the next few days, travel is getting complicated as Typhoon Dujuan brings heavy rains to major parts of the country.

Dujuan is impacting flights both in and out of the country, including Hawaii News Now’s Jonathan Masaki, who was in Japan this week and was flying back to Hawaii Sunday.

At Haneda International Airport, in Tokyo, rain poured down throughout Silver Week, a rare alignment of Japanese national holidays falling on one September week.

Earlier Sunday, Delta Air Lines told passengers that because of incoming inclement weather, it was waiving change-of-fare fees for travelers seeking earlier departures.

Rain across Japan has been nonstop for two days and is expected to intensify once the storm draws nearer Monday afternoon into the evening.

HNN spoke to other Hawaii residents who were concerned about the typhoon and were trying to get back to the islands earlier.

The next few hours will determine how the storm will affect travel plans to Japan as it moves towards Tokyo.

Travelers to Japan are advised to check with their carriers as Dujuan will affect both Haneda and Narita airports.
