UH proposes tuition freeze followed by back-to-back increases
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The University of Hawaii is proposing a 5% tuition fee increase across all 10 campuses beginning with the 2029-30 academic year.

A new four-year tuition schedule includes another 5% hike the following year.
No system wide increases are planned for 2027-28 and 2028-29 school years.
The increases would apply to undergraduate, graduate, and professional tuition rates. According to the university, the proposal is meant to address rising costs after tuition remained relatively flat for a decade.
The only exception to the two-year tuition freeze is UH Hilo’s Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy, where tuition for the professional pharmacy program would increase 5% annually beginning next fall to address accreditation requirements and operational needs.

Public review begins Sept. 18 and will include meetings on Hawaii Island, Maui, Kauai, and Oahu.
The UH Board of Regents is expected to consider the final proposal on November 19.
