Freeway hit-and-run victim dies as police search for driver

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A 54-year-old woman who was critically injured in an eastbound H-1 Freeway hit-and-run crash in Waipahu on Aug. 30 has died, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

Department officials were notified on Sept. 8 that the woman had succumbed to her injuries.

According to investigators, the crash occurred around 1 a.m. when an unidentified driver traveled onto the right shoulder and rear-ended a parked vehicle where the woman was sitting in the back seat.

Following the crash, the driver continued eastbound and fled the scene by taking the Pearl City off-ramp without stopping to render aid or provide information, police said.

Police noted the victim was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Officials have not yet determined if speed, drugs, or alcohol were factors.
