Oahu youth-led climate projects can score up to $5,000 from new city fund
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The City and County of Honolulu is looking to uplift Oʻahu youth in their work on local climate solutions through its new Youth Climate Action Fund.

Backed by a $50,000 grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies, the city aims to fund 20 to 40 projects with grants of up to $5,000 each for youth ages 15 to 24.
Dr. Kealoha Fox, chief resiliency officer for the city’s Office of Climate Change, Sustainability and Resiliency, said projects “could be in schools. It could be in community-based organizations. It could be in neighborhoods, with faith-based organizations.”

The city hopes to duplicate the hands-on success seen in local classrooms, like the Academy of Natural Resources at Waipahu High School, where students grow their own food for the campus cafeteria and care for livestock.

Applications will be accepted through Sept. 7.
