DHHL breaks ground on new lots in West Oahu

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – State officials and legislators gathered Saturday in Waiʻanae to break ground on new Hawaiian Home Land.

The state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) held the groundbreaking in Waiʻanae, marking the start of development for 24 lots in four residential communities in West Oʻahu.

A total of 16 lots will be awarded in Kapolei at Kaʻuluokahaʻi II-B, Kaʻuluokahaʻi II-C, Kānehili and eight in Waiʻanae.

“Today represents hope,” said U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda, D-Hawaiʻi. “I mean, just being here, it’s a real chicken skin moment to know that very soon they’re gonna start to put homes on the ground and people are gonna be able to be awarded and start turning keys in the doors.”

DHHL said the houses constructed on the 24 lots will represent the department’s first factory-built single-family modular homes.
