Teen violinist on 50-state national anthem quest performs at Pearl Harbor

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A 13-year-old violinist is on a quest to perform the national anthem in all 50 states — and on Friday, she checked Hawaii off her list as her 44th stop.

Sabrina Patel, who is from Burlington, North Carolina, played the national anthem at the Pearl Harbor Visitors Center. She also performed “Ode to Joy” and “God Bless America.”

“I just really want to give a sense of patriotism to people if they’re walking by and hearing me play,” she said. “I want them to think, ‘Wow, I feel so patriotic,’ and I want my playing to instill a sense of hope and pride in people in our country.”

Patel has been playing the violin since she was 4. Her musical journey has already taken her across the country, with performances at several MLB and NBA games, including the Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, and Detroit Pistons.

“It’s really broadened my view on the world as a whole,” Patel said. “I’ve been able to see so many different places.”

Her next stop is Colorado, where she’ll be performing for the Colorado Rockies.
