Halau Hiiakainamakalehua takes top awards at 51st Keiki Hula Competition
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hālau Hi’iakaināmakalehua nearly swept the top awards at the 51st Annual Queen Liliuokalani Keiki Hula Competition and Festival.

Saturday concluded the three-day event at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center with the presentation of group awards in hula kahiko and hula auana, Hawaiian language and overall awards.
Hālau Hi’iakaināmakalehua, under the direction of Kumu Hula Robert Keano Kaʻupu IV, won seven different awards.

Hula Kahiko – Kaikamāhine
1st place: Hālau Hi’iakaināmakalehua (O‘ahu), Robert Keano Kaʻupu IV.
2nd place: Keolalaulani Hālau ʻŌlapa O Laka (O‘ahu), Keolalaulani Dalire
3rd place: Hālau Hula o Kamuela (O‘ahu), Kauʻionālani Kamanaʻo and Kunewa Mook
Hula Kahiko – Keiki Kāne
1st place: Hālau Hi’iakaināmakalehua (O‘ahu), Robert Keano Kaʻupu IV
2nd place: Hālau Kekuaokalā’au’ala’iliahi (Maui), Haunani and ‘Iliahi Paredes

The 51st Annual Queen Liliʻuokalani Keiki Hula Competition and Festival is under the stewardship of the Hawaiian Council and presented by the Kyo-ya Hotels and Resorts and Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort.
“These performances reflect countless hours of preparation, the unwavering commitment of our kumu hula and the support of families who continue to invest in our keiki,” said Kūhiō Lewis, CEO of the Hawaiian Council. “We congratulate every hālau that participated and our award winners for carrying forward the legacy of Queen Liliʻuokalani through hula.”
