First Alert Forecast: Increased showers expected Tuesday morning

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Happy Tuesday! We’re tracking an increased chance of showers throughout this morning, with a drying trend into the afternoon. Most of the rainfall will be focused over windward and mauka regions.

Expect a similar, if not slightly drier, weather pattern throughout Wednesday.

Moderate to breezy trades will continue this week, with a slight strengthening expected after Wednesday. Some gusts could climb to 20 miles per hour and above each afternoon. Mostly sunny conditions are expected Thursday and onward into the weekend.

The National Weather Service has canceled the High Surf Advisory for south-facing shores. A new long-period south-southwest swell will arrive on Wednesday and will peak at high surf advisory criteria on Thursday and Friday.

We’re also tracking Hurricane Fausto in the eastern Pacific, which could strengthen to a Category 2 Hurricane over the next few days. There is still a wealth of uncertainty when it comes to this storm, but models Tuesday morning are starting to converge and show a northwestward track for Fausto. This would mean Fausto would track to the north of the state.

The storm is also expected to weaken as it travels into the central Pacific. If the storm does take a northwestward track, Fausto will interfere with our trade wind flow next week, potentially leading to warm and humid weather for the state.
