Crews extinguish flaming vehicle in Makakilo driveway

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Honolulu firefighters responded to a residential building fire in Makakilo Monday afternoon.

A 911 call came in to the Honolulu Fire Department at 12:19 p.m., reporting a fire at a building on Hooko Place.

The first units arrived at 12:31 p.m., and discovered smoke and fire coming out of a vehicle in the driveway of a one-story, single-family residence.

According to HFD, flames were starting to spread to the garage and the eaves of the structure’s roof.

Crews were able to fully extinguish the fire in 10 minutes.

Upon searching the residence, firefighters confirmed that there were no occupants inside at the time.

All responding firefighters were accounted for, and no injuries were reported.

An investigation was opened to find out the fire’s origin, cause, and estimated damage costs.

This blaze is separate from an early morning fire in Makakilo that left one man dead.
