What’s Cooking; His Fellow Baker serves up Filipino favorites with faith and community

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A Filipino home bakery is serving the community through food and faith, one baked good at a time.

Anna Marie Yi and John Yi, who are husband and wife as well as co-owners of His Fellow Bakery, joined us on HNN’s Sunrise Weekends to showcase their handmade Hopia, heart-shaped cookies, cupcakes, and seasonal desserts located in Hoopili, Kapolei.

The businesses began through Inspire Church’s Bake a Blessing ministry and grew from a desire to serve the community through food, faith, and fellowship.

“What happens is Bake a Blessing gets individual bakers within the church community and we bake cakes and cupcakes and push them out,” John Yi said.

Places they’ve baked for include Hawaii’s youth correctional facility and the youth shelter.

“What sets us really apart is our roots and our Christian foundation and our faith. It’s with God’s love and Aloha that we bake all of our baked goods with,” John Yi said.

Many recipes are rooted in family traditions, including the green onion hopia recipe passed down from Anna’s mother.

His Fellow Baker can be found at Hoopili farmers markets on first Mondays, second Fridays, and third Thursdays along with other community events in Kapolei.
