Retired warships to be sunk in waters off Hawaii
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The U.S. Navy plans to sink two retired warships to the bottom of the ocean off Hawaii.

San Diego’s USS Peleliu and USS Mobile Bay will be part of this month’s RIMPAC exercises, training sailors on naval combat skills.
The assault ship USS Peleliu, also known as the Iron Nickel, sailed more than one million miles during its 35 years of service.

And the 567-foot cruiser, USS Mobile Bay, is most notable for its role in Operation Desert Storm in 1991.

The Navy has not yet disclosed when and how the vessels will be sunk.
