Suspect in 2 Makiki bank robberies appears in court
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A suspect accused of robbing two banks in the Makiki area appeared in court Thursday on two counts of second-degree robbery.

According to court documents, Michael Hooper, 69, walked into the Territorial Savings Bank on Piikoi Street Monday and repeatedly demanded money from the teller, who refused.
Hooper left without any money taken and proceeded to American Savings Bank on South Beretania Street, where he told two tellers he had a weapon and demanded $1,000 or $2,000, documents said.

Hooper left with $1,000, including traceable premarked bills, documents said. He was arrested Monday.
His bail was maintained at $100,000, and he is scheduled to return to court Tuesday.
