The Wai Kai Surf League Contest takes place Saturday, July 11, at 4 p.m.
While the event will feature divisions for surfers of all ages and skill levels, only the open men’s and open women’s divisions will serve as the official Team USA qualifying divisions.
The winners of those divisions will secure their place on Team USA, and get an all-expenses-paid trip to compete at the Continental Surf Cup at Lakeside Surf in Washington state over the Labor Day weekend.
The Summer Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles in 2028.
“We’re excited to host a competition that not only showcases talent but also provides a pathway for advancement in the sport,” said Adam Muller, director of guest experience and local promotions at Wai Kai. “Hawaii has always produced talented surfers, and this event creates another opportunity for local athletes to compete at a high level and pursue their goals on a national stage.”
Following the qualifier, Wai Kai will host the Honua Finals opening ceremony on Wednesday, July 22, welcoming young surfers from around the world ahead of the World Cup of Interscholastic Surfing.
