Pedestrian seriously injured in crash on Kauai
LIHUE (HawaiiNewsNow) – A pedestrian was seriously injured in a crash on Kauai along the Kuhio Highway Friday night.

The crash happened at about 10:45 p.m., near the intersection of Laukona Street and Kuhio Highway.
According to the Kauai Police Department, a 58-year-old Hanamalulu man was walking westbound along the eastbound shoulder of the highway and was hit by a 2008 Toyota van driven by a 77-year-old Kapaa man while attempting to cross the road.
Police said the pedestrian was initially taken to Wilcox Medical Center in critical but stable condition. He was then transferred to the Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu for further treatment.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and speed does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash. Toxicology results are pending.
Kuhio Highway was closed for about two and a half hours while police conducted the on-scene investigation.
