2nd suspect charged in connection with Hopaka St. shooting

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The second suspect in Sunday’s Hopaka Street attempted murder investigation was charged Friday.

Musiq Tago, 19, was charged with attempted murder in the first degree, two counts of attempted murder in the second degree, and firearms offenses.

The charges stem from a shooting that occurred around 3:45 a.m. June 14, when officers responded to reports of a large fight involving numerous people at a business on Hopaka Street.

Emergency Medical Services said crews responded shortly before 4 a.m. and transported the two men to an emergency room in critical condition after administering advanced life support measures.

On Sunday, June 14, police initially said two men, ages 23 and 24, sustained gunshot wounds.

On Thursday, detectives said that after exiting a business on Hopaka Street, a suspect pointed a firearm at two victims and pulled the trigger; however, neither victim was struck.

An initial suspect was identified as TJ Tatashy, who was arrested and then charged with second-degree attempted murder and firearms offenses.

As the investigation continued, detectives from the Homicide and Strategic Enforcement Detail identified Tago as an additional suspect.

He was arrested by the Honolulu Police Department Thursday morning in Waianae.

Tago’s bail was set at $1.5 million.

The investigation remains ongoing.
