Police arrest 5 juveniles, 9 e-bikes recovered in West Oahu enforcement operation

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Five juveniles were arrested, 12 citations issued and nine e-dirt bikes recovered during a Honolulu Police Department e-bike enforcement operation in West Oahu.

On Thursday, officers conducted a district-wide operation across Ewa, Kapolei, Nanakuli and Waianae to address illegal e-dirt bike activity.

Police said the five juveniles were arrested for driving without a license.

The 12 citations were issued to adults and juveniles for violations related to illegal operation and roadway use.

“Our officers remain committed to improving traffic safety in our community and reducing dangerous riding behaviors that put both riders and the public at risk,” said District 8 Capt. Marino Carreira. “We remind the public that e-dirt bikes are not street legal and encourage riders to consider safer, lawful transportation options, such as pedal-assisted e-bicycles, while also ensuring operators understand and follow traffic safety rules.”

The department said it will continue enforcement and education efforts across the island to promote safe riding practices, legal compliance and safer roads.
