450 drivers pulled over as police increase enforcement on Saddle Rd.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii Island police are conducting high-visibility traffic enforcement to try to reduce the amount of crashes in the county.

From June 8 to June 14, officers were placed in easy-to-see locations along Daniel K. Inouye Highway, also known as Saddle Road.

In just one week, officers pulled over 450 vehicles and identified more than 600 traffic violations.

Saddle Road was recently the site of multiple fatal crashes, which prompted this traffic safety initiative from the police department.

The traffic violations identified during that second week of June included 327 speeding violations, five reckless driving violations, two unsafe passing violations, and 287 other traffic violations.

Officers also made four arrests; two for driving under the influence and two for other offenses, including driving without a license, resisting arrest, and criminal littering.
