Tristen Pakele-Picanco, 19, is the only adult who has been charged in the attack on a lifeguard and a teen boy at Waialee Beach.

On May 30, Lifeguard Kekoa Tamale, 23, said he was trying to save his 15-year-old family friend from about a dozen people who were attacking him that night.

Instead of intervening, Tamale says bystanders recorded the beating on their phones.

Picanco pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempted assault in the first degree.

If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.

His trial is set for the week of August 10.

The remaining six suspects are juveniles whose cases are being handled in family court.
