Saint Louis football parts ways with head coach Tupu Alualu

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Saint Louis School is making a change at the top of its football program.

The school announced Monday that Tupu Alualu is no longer serving as head coach of the Crusaders’ Open Division football team.

School President and CEO Glenn Medeiros said in a statement that the program is moving in a new direction.

“We are grateful for the time and dedication Tupu has given to our young athletes, and we thank him for his contributions,” Medeiros said.

Alualu, a former Saint Louis player and assistant coach, took over the program in February 2024 and led the Crusaders to an HHSAA Open Division state championship in his first season.

This year, Saint Louis is off to an 0-4 start and has been shut out by at least 40 points in three of those games.

Hawaii News Now reached out to Alualu, who respectfully declined to comment at this time.

Assistant coach Leonard Lau will take over as interim head coach.

Lau, also a Saint Louis graduate and former player, has coached high school football on Oʻahu for more than two decades, including stops at Kamehameha Schools, Aiea High School and Punahou School.

The school said it will begin searching for a permanent head coach in the coming months.
