Red Cross asks for volunteers to help with Hurricane Lowell recovery efforts

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The American Red Cross is mobilizing volunteers across the islands to support families in need after the devastating impact of Hurricane Lowell.

Volunteers are currently on the ground delivering essential supplies—including cots, blankets, and hygiene kits — to five refuge centers on Kauaʻi, which will remain open tonight to accommodate displaced residents.

Approximately 300 people sought safety overnight in relief centers across Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, and Maui. With the scale of the recovery efforts growing, the organization is calling on community members to step up and help.

“The community does come together every single time to support each other. Continue to do that. Check on your neighbors, stay safe. If you’re looking for ways to volunteer, redcross.org/hawaii, we are always looking for people to volunteer. No experience is needed. We have tons of training and resources and donate,” said Molly Schmidt, CEO of the American Red Cross Pacific Islands Region.

Schmidt emphasized that the vast majority of those on the ground providing aid—roughly 90% — are local volunteers.
