Puna man arrested following reports of armed threatening incident

HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii Island police arrested a 37-year-old Puna man in connection with a firearms incident in Hilo on Wednesday evening.

South Hilo patrol officers responded to a residence on Iloko Street around 11:30 p.m., following reports of a man with a firearm making threatening statements.

The suspect allegedly fled the area on foot when police arrived.

Police searched the area throughout the night, eventually locating him before 7:30 a.m., Thursday on Ponohawai Street.

He was arrested without incident on suspicion of terroristic threatening, violation of a temporary restraining order, burglary, and prohibited possession of a firearm.

The suspect was taken to the East Hawaii Detention Center in Hilo.

Detectives with the Area I Juvenile Aid Section are continuing the investigation.
