Maui County clears large downed trees on Piiholo’s Ehu Road after Lala

MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) – Maui County has cleared large downed trees that fell on Ehu Road in Piiholo Sunday from Lala.

Maui’s Department of Public Works said the road reopened Tuesday after parts of the roadway were blocked by the volume of trees and debris.

Lala, a tropical storm by the time it reached Maui, brought heavy rain and flooding. County officials said Upcountry and East Maui were impacted with many large, downed trees and floodwaters that toppled power lines and damaged other infrastructure.

Officials said the county’s Department of Water Supply and the state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife assisted DPW with clearing Olinda and Piiholo Sunday.
