Man found dead in Naalehu following Hurricane Lala

NAALEHU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii Island police are investigating after a man’s body was found in a Kau pasture near Highway 11.

Police said they received a request to conduct a welfare check Monday afternoon for a man believed to be in his 60s, but initial search efforts were unsuccessful.

His remains were discovered by local residents Tuesday afternoon in a pasture near the 63-mile marker of Highway 11.

According to investigators, the death appears to be related to the extreme weather conditions caused by Hurricane Lala.

Foul play is not suspected at this time.

The man’s identity has not been released pending positive identification and family notification. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
