Hawaii crime rate drops in 2025, new state data shows
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii’s overall crime rate fell in 2025, according to newly released statewide data.

The state Department of the Attorney General reported 54,089 “Group A” criminal offenses last year, marking an 11.6% decrease in the total crime rate compared with 2024.
Crime against persons fell 5.7%, while property crime dropped 16.1%. Crimes against society, which include drug, vice and weapons offenses, increased slightly by 0.9%.
Statewide, 24.5% of reported offenses were cleared by arrest or exceptional means, up from 22.7% the year before.
Major offenses decline
Several major offense categories decreased statewide in 2025.
Murders fell 24.2%, forcible sex offenses dropped 23.4%, motor vehicle thefts declined 21.9%, and larceny and theft offenses decreased 19.8%.
Arson dropped 31.4%, while robbery declined 13.9% and assault fell 5.3%.
However, burglary increased 7.2%, drug offenses rose 0.2% and gambling offenses increased 10%.
Crime rates fall across all four counties
Honolulu saw the largest countywide decline, with its total crime rate dropping 16.6% in 2025.
Maui County’s rate fell 6.2%, Kauaʻi County’s dropped 6.1%, and Hawaiʻi County saw a smaller decrease of 0.9%.
The clearance rate increased in Honolulu, Maui and Kauaʻi counties, while Hawaiʻi County’s rate remained unchanged from 2024.

Sex offenses, hate crimes also down
A total of 847 sex offenses were reported statewide in 2025, down 23.8% from the year before.
The state also recorded 4,394 crimes involving a current or former intimate partner, an 8.5% decrease from 2024.
Hate crimes dropped from 92 reported cases in 2024 to 44 in 2025, a decrease of 52.2%.
Stolen property, drug offenses
More than $95 million worth of property was reported stolen statewide in 2025, with about 24% recovered.
Money accounted for the largest share of stolen property by value, followed by automobiles.
The state also reported 3,792 drug offenses, with law enforcement seizing more than 226 kilograms and 32 liters of drugs and narcotics.
Expanded crime dashboard
The Attorney General’s Office also expanded its online Hawaiʻi Crime Dashboard.
The dashboard includes 54 display pages and allows users to review data by county, reporting year, broad crime category and specific offense type.
