First Alert Forecast: Tropical Storm Lowell strengthening, expected to pass south of the state

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Tropical Storm Lowell remains over 800 miles ESE of the Big Island. Latest forecast track has Lowell passing south of the Big Island late Wednesday into Thursday. Lowell is forecast to pass well south of the state. Impacts are uncertain for now, but chances are high for stronger winds on Thursday and Friday as the cyclone passes to the south of the state. Breezy trades will continue through at least the middle of the week with showers generally favoring windward and mauka areas, particularly during the overnight through early morning hours each day.

A near advisory south swell is due on Tuesday. A S/SE cyclone swell is expected on Thursday.
