First Alert Forecast: Stronger trade winds

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Moderate trade winds are blowing today, bringing a few passing showers to windward and mauka areas, but overall, conditions will stay fairly dry.

The bigger change over the next couple of days will be the winds. High pressure building north of the state will help strengthen our trades, becoming breezy by Thursday and potentially locally strong by the weekend.

That means choppier conditions along east-facing shores, too.

For rainfall, expect mostly limited showers through Thursday. We’ll see a slight increase in windward and mauka showers late Friday into the weekend as more moisture moves in from the east and an upper-level disturbance approaches.

Another uptick in showers is possible Saturday night and early next week, although there’s still some uncertainty about just how wet things will get.

For the beaches, north and west shores will see surf gradually ease through Friday before another northwest swell builds late Friday into the weekend. South-facing shores will continue to see some elevated surf today, with another south swell helping maintain near-seasonal surf levels into the weekend.

East-facing shores will remain small through Thursday, with choppier surf building as the trades strengthen.

Overall, we’re looking at a relatively dry and breezy stretch, with stronger trades and a few more windward showers heading into the weekend. Have a wonderful Wednesday, Hawaiʻi, and stay tuned to your First Alert Weather Team for the latest updates!
