Saint Louis grad Titan Lacaden is finding his way into the Hawaii offense.

“I’m just trying to apply what they teach us, just trying to be a sponge, soak up the knowledge and like I said, just apply it to the game,” Lacaden said.

Lacaden has the kind of mentality coaches dream of – the ultimate student of the game. The all-around athlete prides himself on being a team player with excellent work ethic.

“If these guys want me to go play offensive line, I got it,” Lacaden said. “If they want me to gain 50 pounds to go play defensive line, I got it. I’m really just playing any role, hopefully just continue to add value.”

He carries a reputation from high school, whether he lined up at running back or receiver. A pure playmaker, he reached 34 total touchdowns, a state title and a spot in the Hawaii High School Hall of Honor.

The three-star recruit hoped that momentum would carry over as he left the Brotherhood for the BRADDAHHOOD.

However, plans changed when he was placed on the scout team.

“It definitely humbles you,” Lacaden said. “For somebody like me, scouted as like a top prospect coming out of high school, it’s a big teaching moment. Are you gonna fold under the pressure? Are you gonna be selfish and not give the best effort on scout team? Or are you gonna embrace your role?”

Joining the scout team motivated him even more, as he took advantage of every rep.

At the end of the season, he was named Offensive Scout Team MVP.

“When you talk about special athletes and special individuals, Titan has those qualities where he wants to be great – his ability to comprehend our offense, comprehend special teams,” said Head Coach Timmy Chang. “The way he goes about it and his work – it is second to none.”

Impressed by his grit, the Hawaii coaching staff made room for Lacaden in their offense.

He made his first career start this year against New Mexico State, hauling in three catches for 20 yards, plus a thrilling 69-yard kickoff return.

“I just want to be a team player,” said Lacaden. “I’ve always kind of just voiced that to my coaches, to my fellow brothers. I stepped up this year being able to get into the rotation, whether that be in the slot room or in the running backs. I’m just happy with anyway I can add value.”

Hawaii fans can expect many more standing ovation plays out of Lacaden, as he vowed to spend his entire collegiate career in Manoa.
