‘Aggressive’ tiger shark spotted in waters off Ala Moana Beach

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Warning signs are up after an “aggressive” tiger shark was spotted in offshore Ala Moana Beach Park Wednesday, near the surf spot “Consessions.”

According to the Honolulu Ocean Safety Department (HOSD), at around 1:30 p.m., a surfer said she was lying on her surfboard when the shark bumped her off her board. She paddled back to shore and reported the incident to lifeguards at Tower 1B.

The shark left what appears to be scratch marks from its teeth on a woman’s surfboard.

HOSD said the woman was not injured.

Lifeguards then placed shark warning signs throughout the surrounding area to alert beachgoers and ocean users.

Officials said if the public sees or encounters a shark, to alert Ocean Safety or call 911.

HOSD urges all ocean users to exercise caution and remain alert when entering the water. Anyone who sees a shark is encouraged to calmly exit the water and notify a lifeguard or emergency personnel.
