The logic and accuracy test was conducted to ensure that all voting and vote-counting equipment is programmed correctly and counts votes accurately before the Nov. 3 election.

Election officials worked alongside a group of official observers who serve as “the eyes and ears” of the public. These observers represent political parties, community groups, and Hawaii residents.

Chief Elections Officer Scott Nago said that, like anything, it’s important to make sure everything works properly so votes can be counted correctly.

During the test, observers:

“They’re gonna run through the system,” Nago said. “This is the system we’re gonna use to count the ballots on Election Day. They’re gonna get the results and they’re gonna make sure it’s counting properly.”

Officials began neighbor island tests last week.
