2 survive small plane crash near Molokai’s Kalaupapa Airport

MOLOKAI (HawaiiNewsNow) – Two men were taken to the hospital after a small plane crashed in waters off Molokai Monday.

Firefighters were notified at 11:43 a.m. after a single-engine aircraft went down about two miles west of Kalaupapa Airport, county officials said.

The Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety said both occupants were able to exit the aircraft and make their way to shore on their own.

Officials said they reached the National Park facilities at Kalaupapa and were airlifted to Kalaupapa lookout, where they were evaluated by Emergency Medical Services and taken to Molokai General Hospital.

Officials said the men were from Oahu. The extend of their injuries is unknown at this time.
