Coast Guard searches for missing jet skier in North Shore waters of Oahu

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Coast Guard and partner agencies are searching for a missing jet ski rider in the water off the North Shore of Oahu on Sunday.

Missing is Anthony Empting, 56, who was last seen departing Haleiwa Harbor on Saturday morning.

Officials said a boater found the watercraft in the vicinity of Dillingham Airfield in Waialua, Hawaii. He is approximately 6′1″ and 150 lbs.

Honolulu Ocean Safety Department said personnel arrived on scene and discovered keys in the ignition with a life jacket and personal effects on board the watercraft.

Coast Guard Sector Honolulu command center watchstanders received a report at 10:50 a.m. Saturday.

Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and coordinated the launch of a Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point and diverted the crew of fast response cutter USCGC Joseph Gerczak.
