First Alert Forecast: Tropical System Developing on our Doorstep

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A wet batch of weather (soon-to-be-named Nolo) is southeast of Hawaii and moving this way. As it moves closer, it’s getting more organized and is forecast to be a tropical depression in the next day or two. Continued strengthening is possible and it could be a tropical storm (or even a hurricane) when the system’s center approaches the islands later this week.

Wet weather could begin for Hawaii Island as soon as late Wednesday and depending on Nolo’s track, it could drop two feet of rain or more by Sunday. Hawaii Island and Maui are most likely to get the biggest accumulations.

Winds could gust to 60 or 70mph on Big Island summits and upslope Haleakala on Maui.

Weather advisories will likely be posted over the next day or two including a Flash Flood Watch and Wind Advisories.
