Dozens of firefighters battle late-night brush fire in Kalaeloa

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Honolulu fire officials responded to a brush fire in Kalaeloa late Saturday night.

The initial 911 call came in at 9:54 p.m. for a fire burning near San Jacinto Street and Essex Road.

Three Honolulu Fire Department units with nine personnel initially responded, with the first arriving at 10:08 p.m. to find a large brush fire.

Crews launched an offensive attack and requested additional resources, ultimately bringing 14 units and 43 personnel to the scene.

Firefighters reached 90% containment by 11:15 p.m. and fully contained the fire at 1:08 a.m., stopping the flames before any structures were threatened.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries reported.

The fire’s origin and cause remain undetermined.
