Boil Water Notice cancelled for part of Hawaii Island

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A precautionary Boil Water Notice is no longer in effect for part of Hawai’i Island.

The county’s Department of Water Supply (DWS) cancelled the precautionary notice at around noon on Friday for customers of the Wai’ōhinu-Nā‘ālehu Water System.

Additional bacteriological testing of the water system was conducted.

Laboratory water analysis confirmed that coliform bacteria and other potential microbiological contaminants are not present in the water system.

The water meets all regulatory drinking water quality requirements, according to county officials.

Customers can resume normal use of tap water immediately. It is no longer necessary to boil tap water or use bottled water for drinking, cooking, making ice or brushing teeth.

Residents are recommended to flush the following water sources for several minutes based on the extent of plumbing before first use:

Hurricane Lala recovery and infrastructure repair efforts in the Wai‘ōhinu–Nā‘ālehu Water System remain ongoing.
