Tokuda tours PMRF as Hurricane Lowell recovery efforts continue

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda, D-Hawaii, recently toured the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) Barking Sands, Kauai, to see storm-damaged facilities and recovery efforts from Hurricane Lowell.

On Sept. 10, the installation gave the all-clear after Lowell passed and recovery efforts were underway.

That same day, Tokuda met with sailors, installation personnel and the facility’s commanding officer, Capt. Robert Prince, who gave updates on storm impacts, recovery operations and mission readiness.

“Rep. Tokuda’s visit provided an important opportunity to highlight the storm’s impacts and the close connection between PMRF and the Kauai community as we recover from Hurricane Lowell,” Prince said. “We rely on many of the same lifelines and critical infrastructure across the island, and our recovery efforts are focused not only on restoring normal operations, but also on strengthening the resilience that supports both mission readiness and community well-being.

More than 900 of the installation’s workforce lives in West Kauai, with many recovering from the storm at home and at work.

PMRF said Tokuda’s visit reinforced the importance of building greater redundancy in infrastructure, the restoration mission of essential operations and the bond between the facility and the local community.

The installation said as recovery efforts continue, it remains focused on restoring critical assets needed to return to normal operations.
