UH football prepares for New Mexico State as quarterback Micah Alejado takes rest day

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The University of Hawaiʻi football team is looking to bounce back after another tough loss to UNLV.

The Rainbow Warriors moved practice up to the afternoon as a precaution against any effects from the passing of Hurricane Lowell, but the team was able to get their work in ahead of the upcoming game.

Sitting at 0-2 on the season, Hawaiʻi faces New Mexico State in a critical matchup to correct the course of the year.

Alejado sits out Tuesday practice

Starting quarterback Micah Alejado was not practicing on Tuesday, with backup Bjorn Jurgensen taking the first-team reps.

Head coach Timmy Chang said he was giving Alejado a recovery day after two tough games.

“He’s just getting some rest,” Chang said. “Tough two games for Micah and just getting rest, resting the body. He’ll be ready to go Saturday.”

Preparing for a veteran opponent

This will be UH’s 13th meeting with the Aggies, with Hawaiʻi holding a 7-0 record against them when playing at home. The Rainbow Warriors previously beat them back in 2023.

Despite the record, the team is viewing the upcoming matchup as a clean slate.

“(New Mexico State is) coming off a big win and they’re veteran. They have a lot of experience. So for us, we have to get ready. We have to get ready to play four quarters,” Chang said. “Put together good stretches on all three phases and find a way to go out there and get our first win.”
