Family of Southwest flight attendant found dead in Waikiki pushes for answers

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Honolulu police are continuing to investigate the death of a flight attendant found in Waikiki last week as her family pushes for more answers.

Jenny Lupton, 50, a Southwest Airlines flight attendant from Oklahoma, was found dead on Thursday, Aug. 20.

Lupton’s nephew said the family was told she fell from the 24th floor of the Hilton Hawaiian Village and landed in a waste bin.

Her family is asking the Oklahoma Attorney General to push for a more thorough investigation because they believe the circumstances surrounding her death are suspicious.

“We have no reason to think that Jenny would have intentionally harmed herself,” her nephew said.

He said Lupton had gotten a hibiscus flower tattoo the night she died and had spoken with his mother about returning to Oklahoma to have it filled in with color.

“She has a 15-year-old boy who is her world,” he said.

The Honolulu Police Department said its Homicide Detail is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding Lupton’s death and working closely with her family.

Police said detectives are conducting interviews, reviewing and recovering surveillance video and examining evidence.

At this time, HPD said no conclusions have been made regarding the manner of death.

Officials said some information will be withheld while the investigation remains ongoing to preserve its integrity.

HPD added that the public will be notified if investigators identify an immediate threat to public safety.
