Nathaniel Radimak, 39, received a seven-year sentence after Circuit Court Judge Clarissa Malinao granted the state’s motion for consecutive terms on one felony count of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and two counts of third-degree assault.

Diane Ung and her daughter were injured in the May 7, 2025 attack on Halekauwila Street, officials said.

Prior to learning his sentence, Radimak explained himself publicly for the first time in court.

“I take accountability. I just feel bad about it,” he said. “It shouldn’t have happened, but I really need a certain kind of treatment that is being prolonged and farther away. It’s not helping me, but I take accountability.”

But as part of her ruling, Judge Malinao said Radimak did not seek the medical treatment she said he needed, and consumed illegal substances while he was already on parole for other crimes.

“Defendant is described as lacking empathy, that others should accept his violent acting out as normal behavior,” Malinao said.

“His history of violence is propensity for violence, and defendant’s voluntary intoxication and discontinuation of medication increase the risk of his dangerousness to self and to the public,” Malinao said. “These findings also demonstrate and reinforce that the defendant is indeed a danger to the safety of the public.”

Ung was at the sentencing, but was too shaken up to speak to the media.

Judge Malinao explained the trauma Ung is still experiencing from the attack.

“Depression, fear of being out in public, causing emotional distress, anxiety, financial stress due to missed work as a single parent to her children,” Malinao said.

Radimak pleaded no contest in January and, under the plea agreement, must also pay more than $2,000 in restitution.

He will get credit for time he’s already served, which is about a year.

Prior incidents in Hawaii, California

Radimak previously made headlines nationwide after being dubbed the “Tesla road rage” driver in connection with violent incidents in California.

Nearly three weeks before the Kakaako encounter, Radimak was also caught on camera threatening a young woman at the Planet Fitness in Kahala.

“It is undeniable that the defendant is a clear danger to the public,” prosecuting attorney Hon-Lum Cheung-Cheng said. “Prolonged incarceration is the only way to protect the public from the defendant.”

Shortly after Radimak was jailed in Honolulu, other inmates allegedly beat him, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
