It’s a boy! Maui Hyatt reveals new penguin chick’s gender

A video shows their new African penguin chick that hatched at the resort last month stepping around on a blue substance to announce that it’s a boy.
The resort shared a video of the reveal on Instagram with the caption, “We’re delighted to announce our new baby penguin is a… boy! Our sweet chick is happy, healthy, and growing fluffier by the day. Follow along for more updates as he waddles through his first months of life.”
The penguin chick was the first born on the property in nearly 17 years.
The new penguin chick joins seven adult African penguins at the resort.
Hyatt Regency Maui will post updates on their social media accounts.
The public will be able to vote on the chick’s name via social media, starting Wednesday, May 27.

The chick will make its public debut June 8, on World Ocean Day, during a special event with a traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremony and official name announcement.
The Maui Hyatt is part of a large global effort to prevent the critically endangered species from going extinct.
Hyatt Regency Maui guests can see the penguin colony during daily presentations, at 9:30 a.m., in their habitat in the Atrium lobby.
