Public services announced to honor life, legacy of former Gov. George Ariyoshi

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Public services honoring the life and legacy of former Hawaii Gov. George Ryoichi Ariyoshi have been scheduled for next month, according to the Governor George R. Ariyoshi State Services Committee.

Ariyoshi, who died in April at age 100, will lie in state at the Hawaii State Capitol rotunda starting at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, until noon on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The public is invited to pay their respects during the 24-hour lie-in-state. A formal state service will also be held at the Capitol rotunda on Friday, Sept. 18, at 6 p.m., with public seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.

On Saturday, Sept. 19, services will move to Kawaiahaʻo Church for a celebration of life. Public visitation at the church will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., followed by the service at 4 p.m.

Ariyoshi will be laid to rest at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl during a private burial service.
