2 women killed in Molokai UTV crash identified

MOLOKAI (HawaiiNewsNow) – Two young women were killed and four others were injured after a utility terrain vehicle crashed on Molokai late Saturday night.

The crash happened around 11 p.m. near Halawa Valley Park at mile marker 28 of Kamehameha V Highway.

Police said a 20-year-old Kaunakakai woman was driving a Polaris UTV with five passengers when she traveled from a dirt roadway onto the paved highway.

According to investigators, the UTV veered toward the south shoulder before the driver swerved and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to lift. Police said she tried to regain control but crossed the roadway and struck a large tree stump on the north shoulder.

All six people were ejected from the UTV.

MPD said Trinnity Napoleon-Lima, the 20-year-old driver, and Shyalyn Rapanot, the 19-year-old riding in the front passenger seat, died at the scene.

The four other passengers — two girls, ages 16 and 17, and two men, ages 20 and 22 — suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Molokai General Hospital.

Police said none of the six occupants was wearing helmets or seat belts.

Investigators believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. Whether drugs were involved remains under investigation.

The deaths mark Maui County’s sixth and seventh traffic fatalities of the year, compared to 12 at the same time in 2025.
