Police officer hits pedestrian in Waikiki

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A 41-year-old man was reportedly hit by a police car in Waikiki Tuesday morning.

The incident happened around 7 a.m., near the busy intersection of Liliuokalani Avenue and Ala Wai Boulevard.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, a 25-year-old officer activated his lights and attempted to turn left onto Ala Wai Boulevard when he struck the pedestrian.

Police say they man was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk when he was hit.

The officer reportedly remained at the scene and was not injured.

Honolulu EMS responded to the scene where the pedestrian was apparently hit by a vehicle.

EMS used advanced life support and treated him for a possible head injury.

He was then taken to a nearby emergency room in serious condition for further treatment, where police say he was later listed in good condition.

HPD has opened an investigation into the incident, however, police say, at this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to have contributed to this collision.
