Lihue surfer pronounced dead after being pulled from waters off Hanamaulu Beach Park

LIHUE (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Kauai Police Department said that on Sunday morning, a Lihue man died in waters off Hanamaulu Beach Park.

Officials said at approximately 10:30 a.m., first responders were dispatched to Hanamaulu Beach Park following reports of an unresponsive surfer next to his board, approximately 25 yards offshore.

Bystanders brought the individual to shore and administered CPR until medics arrived and continued life-saving measures. All attempts to revive the individual were unsuccessful.

The individual was transported to Wilcox Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy is pending to determine the official cause of death and any contributing factors. At this time, there is no evidence to suggest foul play.
