Officer survey shows overwhelming support of Mike Lambert for HPD chief
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii’s police union members are strongly leaning toward one of the three final candidates for the Honolulu Police Department’s chief position.

The State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers, or SHOPO, has expressed overwhelming support for Mike Lambert to become the next Honolulu police chief.
A survey of 635 officers found that nearly 90% chose Lambert, a former HPD major, to lead the department.

Only about 3% picked Scott Ebner, a retired lieutenant colonel from the New Jersey State Police Department, who most recently served as chief for a department in Georgia.
And just over 2% chose David Lazar, who recently retired after a 33-year career with the San Francisco Police Department.

About 5% chose none of the finalists.
SHOPO reports that the survey had just over a 3% margin of error.
The Honolulu Police Commission is set to select the next HPD chief on Wednesday.
