Preliminary investigation reveals that a Volkswagen Jetta was driving southbound on Honoapiilani Highway, approaching the intersection with North Kihei Road.

The Jetta drifted left across the grass median into oncoming traffic, sideswiping a white 2016 Dodge van before colliding head-on with a Volkswagen Atlas.

As a result of this collision, the operator of the Jetta, Teresa Campisi, a 55-year-old Haiku woman, sustained critical, life-threatening injuries and was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.

On Monday, Campisi was transported to Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu for further treatment. On Sunday, May 17, she succumbed to her injuries.
