Ahuimanu Elementary students name monk seal pup in honor of ‘Starry Night’

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A monk seal pup born along Oahu’s east shore has officially been named.

Pō Hoku (RV60) is a male Hawaiian monk seal pup born this season to Lei Ola (RH48).

His name directly translates to “Starry Night,” paying homage to the beautiful night skies often seen from Oahu’s eastern shores.

Pō Hoku was named by students at Ahuimanu Elementary School, the Hawaii Marine Animal Response (HMAR) announced Sunday.

HMAR posted to Facebook, “Mahalo to the students and staff of Ahuimanu Elementary School for helping welcome Pō Hoku into the world. We look forward to following his journey as he continues to explore Hawaiʻi’s shorelines in the years ahead!”
