Police search for suspect in Waipahu machete assault

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Honolulu police are searching for a suspect after a machete assault in Waipahu Monday evening.

Police said the attack happened around 6 p.m. in the parking lot of a Waipahu supermarket.

A 28-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by an unknown man armed with a machete and suffered a laceration. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Witnesses described the suspect as a Samoan man in his 40s with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a white tank top and blue jean shorts.

Police said the suspect fled in an unknown vehicle and has not been located.
