2026 Honua Finals wraps up on Oahu’s South Shore

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Some of the world’s top high school surfers took on the big waves off Oahu’s South Shore this weekend.

The final day of competition wrapped up at Ala Moana Bowls, marking the third installment of the ‘World Cup of Surfing’.

The line ups featured athletes from 40 schools from Hawaii and internationally like Japan, Aotearoa and Canada.

For the local teams, it was a chance to see different competition to the ones they faced in last year’s inaugural interscholastic season.

“In the regular season, we have the OIA division and then we have the private schools, ILH division, or leagues I should say,” Waialua surf head coach Spencer Suitt said. “Then they come together at states and they compete, so this is a different format, It’s amazing, It’s just like what these guys do, the production, the media, the live TV, It’s crazy.”

The final day also saw a coaches heat and a pro heat that featured professional surfers Carissa Moore, Mahina Maeda and Gregg Nakamura.
