Schatz honors 1st Lt. Tyler Feehan on US Senate floor

WASHINGTON, D.C. (HawaiiNewsNow) – U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, honored 1st Lt. Tyler Feehan, who was killed in Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks July 18 at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan.

The 25-year-old is listed as being from Ewa Beach, because he was living in Kapilina Beach Homes on Oahu when he joined the Hawaii Army National Guard in 2019.

Feehan was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, when he died.

Schatz spoke about Feehan on the Senate floor.

“His courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to duty reflect the very best of our Armed Forces,” Schatz said. “We extend our deepest condolences to his family, his loved ones, and to his fellow service members.”

In separate remarks this week, Schatz raised questions about U.S. involvement in the conflict with Iran.

During a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing, Schatz told Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, “You tell my constituents why this war is going so well.”

Hegseth defended U.S. operations in Iran, comparing the conflict to Iraq and Afghanistan.

“President Trump said, ‘We’re not fighting stupid wars like that again,’ and he hasn’t,” Hegseth said. “That’s why we haven’t been trying to remake Iranian society, but simply, in a realist America first way, ensure they never have a path to a nuclear bomb full stop.”
