Hawaiian Humane Society pups searching for a foster home

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – More than 51 newborn and underage puppies are in need of a temporary home.

The Hawaiian Humane Society is seeking foster owners for puppies who are too young for spay and neuter surgeries and cannot be adopted yet.

The first few weeks in a puppy’s life are critical, as their immune systems are still immature. A foster home will provide them with a safe environment and the individualized attention their growing bodies need most.

A foster puppy has varying needs depending on their age; some need round-the-clock care, including bottle feeding through the night, and others simply need a warm, loving home.

Experience is not required to foster a pup, and the Hawaiian Humane Society team will walk first-time fosters through each step along the way.

Most puppy fosters last about four to six weeks, though newborn pups may need eight weeks or more. Puppies must be brought to one of the shelter clinics at various Hawaiian Humane Society campuses for regular checkups.

Once a pup is old enough to be adopted, foster homes will have the first chance to take them in for good.
